How does the Michigan Lottery really impact schools? Some funding does go to K-12 public education, but it’s not as much as many people think. For every $1 spent on the lottery, only about 26¢ goes toward schools, and in the bigger picture, lottery dollars make up just 5% of Michigan’s $23 billion school budget.

All 12 public school districts and four public school academies, serving more than 26,000 students, are standing together to issue a joint letter on the state education budget. Our leaders are united in saying clearly: the School Aid Budget must remain focused on students, ensuring every child, regardless of ZIP code, has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.
