Our naturalist staff conducted nest box inspections and found that while most nests were empty, one held seven Black-Capped Chickadee fledglings! Cleaning boxes reduces parasites and supports good avian health. Don't worry, these guys were returned to their nest to continue growing! #HartleyOEC

Hartley staff was thrilled to have the opportunity to release one of Michigan's most unique native species on the property this week, the Michigan Big Brown Bat! These insect-eating bats help control pests and are vital to our ecosystem.

Our hearts are with our neighbors in St. Charles following last night’s reported tornado. We did have students on campus at Hartley, and we’re grateful to share that everyone is safe thanks to swift action and established safety protocols. We’re incredibly thankful for our staff, both for their response during the storm and their work this morning to begin cleanup efforts. While we did not lose power, we are experiencing limited internet and phone service due to fiber-optic damage and are currently operating using hotspots. If you need to reach us in the meantime, please get in touch with us by email at hartley@sisd.cc, message us here on Facebook, or call Saginaw ISD directly at 989-399-7473. We’re keeping our community in our thoughts as recovery begins. #StCharlesStrong #HartleyOEC
