The Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center School is a Saginaw ISD program focused on providing quality educational opportunities for court-detained youth to keep them on track with their academics. Contact is maintained with probation officers, placement agencies, and home schools to ensure that a student’s transition back into school and the community is accomplished as smoothly and productively as possible without any setbacks. The program is designed to allow students to:

  • Stay connected and current with their academics while on-site.

  • Experience highly individualized instructional approach, unique to each need.

  • Advance academic skills and experience success in an educational environment.

  • Earn credit that can be converted to school credit.

  • Learn about career pathways and experience enrichment opportunities.

  • Develop a positive educational outlook while becoming lifelong learners. 


The school operates in accordance with the policies of the Michigan School Code, Michigan Department of Education, and Saginaw ISD, and within the contractual agreement between the Saginaw County Juvenile Center and the Saginaw ISD. This program has a traditional school calendar with a summer school component. Youth entering the detention facility are enrolled into the school program the same day school is in session, usually within one or two hours of detention admission. 


The school is staffed with an education director, certified social worker, Title 1D personnel, office manager, and certified teachers with access to five classrooms, two computer labs, and a learning lab. Staff continuously develop and update the curriculum which is implemented through whole class, small group, and individualized instruction and activities, including computerized instruction. The curriculum consists of core academic subjects taught in elementary, middle, and high school: English/Language Arts, Math, Social Science, Reading/Literature, Science, Physical Education, and Life Skills. Coursework also includes:

  • Aviator Awards Motivational Program 

  • Counseling 

  • ROCK Life Skills Classes

  • Special Education Services (as needed)

  • Tutoring Program
