Saginaw Intermediate School District (ISD) proudly announces Mitchell Wheatcraft as the new Principal of the Transitions Center. With nearly two decades of experience serving students with exceptionalities across multiple settings, Mr. Wheatcraft brings a deep passion for advocacy, collaboration, and innovation to his leadership role.
Mr. Wheatcraft began his career in Arizona as a high school special education teacher before moving to Saginaw in 2011, where he continued his service as a special educator with Freeland Community Schools. Since joining Saginaw ISD in 2015, Mitchell has held a variety of leadership roles, including Special Education Supervisor, Transition Coordinator, and, most recently, Assistant Principal of the Transitions Center. His leadership journey reflects a steadfast commitment to ensuring students with disabilities have access to high-quality educational and transition opportunities.
David Krantz, Executive Director of Special Education, shared, “Mitchell is a proven leader who consistently goes above and beyond to advocate for students and staff. His work in transition services has helped create pathways for young adults with exceptionalities to achieve independence and success after high school. I am confident that his vision and leadership will continue to strengthen the Transitions Center and expand opportunities for the students and families we serve.”

ABOUT MITCHELL WHEATCRAFT
Mitchell Wheatcraft is the Principal of the Transitions Center for Saginaw Intermediate School District. During his 19 years in education, Mitchell has served as a high school special education teacher, transition coordinator, supervisor, and assistant principal. He is an active member of the Michigan Transition Services Association (MTSA), the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE) Transition Community of Practice, and the Council for Exceptional Children.
Mitchell holds a Bachelor’s in Special Education from Arizona State University, a Master’s in Special Education from Grand Canyon University, and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Concordia Ann Arbor. He also holds teaching certification in K–12 Special Education and a School Administrative Certification.
Beyond his professional work, Mitchell enjoys coaching youth sports, traveling, and spending time outdoors with his wife Heather and their three children, Noah, Alaina, and Lily.

Saginaw Intermediate School District (ISD) is an educational service agency that provides effective and innovative leadership, services, resources, and programs throughout Saginaw County. Saginaw ISD provides career and technical education, early childhood, finance, human resources, instruction, pupil accounting, special education, technology, and transportation services.
