Saginaw Intermediate School District (ISD) is joining school districts across Michigan in recognizing January as School Board Recognition Month, honoring the leadership and service of local school board members who guide public education and represent the communities they serve.
“In another year full of dynamic celebrations and challenges for public education, our school board members provided servant leadership that facilitated educational opportunities for the students throughout Saginaw County,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Collier. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one of the special ways to express appreciation to our leaders.”
School board members play a critical role in representing community priorities while navigating the complex responsibilities of governance, policy, and fiscal oversight. Their work reinforces the principle of local control of public education, a highly valued cornerstone of Michigan’s education system.
During the past year, the Saginaw ISD Board of Education also oversaw and adopted the district’s Strategic Compass in June 2025, establishing a shared direction and long-term framework to guide decision-making, align district efforts, and support student-centered outcomes across Saginaw County.
Saginaw ISD proudly recognizes the members of its Board of Education:
Dr. Katherine Ellison, President (2021–2027)
Lisa Hubbard, Vice President (2023–2029)
Ruth Ann Knapp, Treasurer (2021–2027)
Laurasue Holcomb, Secretary (2020–2029)
Ralph Martin, Trustee (2025–2031)
Board members will be recognized throughout the month of January through district communications and during the January regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting, providing an opportunity to formally thank them for their leadership and service. The public is encouraged to follow the Board of Education’s ongoing work, explore their Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) awards and certifications, read the From Our Board to Yours newsletter, and find contact information on the Saginaw ISD website.
