Saginaw Intermediate School District would like to recognize the following team members for being chosen to take part in the next Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA) Beyond Equity Cohort :

  • Andrea Wise, M.A., Executive Director of Human Resources
  • Vic Bugni, Ed.S., Executive Director of Instructional Services

This 18-month collaborative SDEI (Social Justice through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) series will focus on real issues, lived experiences, and district transformation, and is anchored around student voice and activism. "I am excited to work with a group of servant leaders and engage with them in all the learning and application opportunities offered by MASA and the Beyond Equity Cohort," said DEI Program Director, Viloshinee Murugan.

MASA’s Beyond Equity program – which includes small and large group discussions; structured exercises and protocols; reading, videos, and reflective journaling; group presentations to share learning and implementation plans; and more – is split into four key phases:

Phase 1: Inside SDEI
Phase 2: Equity Assessment and Transformation Audit
Phase 3: Building a District SDEI Plan
Phase 4: Implementing a District SDEI Plan
As part of this important work, participants will seek to:

  1.  Understand their own social identities, biases, and prejudices
  2.  Increase their knowledge about the histories and present reality in social identity groups
  3.  Increase their awareness of social justice concepts, such as implicit bias in microaggressions
  4.  Consider how to incorporate their social justice knowledge and awareness into practice
  5.  Develop an initial SDEI district implementation plan
