Huge thank you to the Saginaw Career Complex health students for stopping by to teach our SCC Head Start kiddos a mini lesson on the power of handwashing! 🧼🖐️

Our little learners had a blast discovering how germs hide on our hands — and why washing them away matters so much this time of year.

The students in Ms. Williams and Ms. Nelums classroom had an amazing learning opportunity while visiting Jerome’s greenhouse. Students planted Solanum Lycopersicon, more commonly known as Roma tomatoes, as part of a hands-on extension of their STEM curriculum.

This experience gave students the chance to plan what they wanted to grow while making meaningful connections to nutrition awareness and healthy living. Over the next few weeks, students will eagerly observe the germination process, track plant growth, and prepare for the moment when their tomatoes are ready to be transplanted.

Opportunities like this help students deepen their understanding of science, apply inquiry skills, and engage in authentic, project-based learning that supports curiosity and innovation.

Students from Ms. Williams’ classroom at Jerome spent the day exploring the campus greenhouse and checking on their commercial hydroponics unit. They were excited to observe the impressive growth of their bok choy and bell peppers, which were planted just a few weeks ago.

Over the next two weeks, students will have the opportunity to harvest their bok choy and enjoy it as a fresh, healthy snack with friends.

Experiences like this highlight the power of hands-on learning and help students make real-world connections through science, teamwork, and curiosity.
