Did you know that Hartley Outdoor Education Center has a Federal Bird Banding Permit issued by the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center -Bird Banding Laboratory which allows us to band all species except waterfowl, eagles and any threatened or endangered species? This past week for the students from Bryant Elementary the staff captured and banded a male White-breasted nuthatch! What an awesome hands-on learning experience for the students.

We were so excited to welcome Swan Valley Middle School out earlier this year. These student’s missed the opportunity to come out last year due to Covid-19 restrictions. So thankful to the SVMS staff that made this trip happen! The students had an amazing time and loved utilizing our 80 ft. tube slides to better understand the impact of surface space, resistance, and friction on moving objects.
