In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, please meet Jason LaPorte. Jason teaches the credit recovery program at the Juvenile Detention Center School. In his class, students have the ability to recover lost credits from previous grades. In the credit recovery program, students take online classes and are able to work at their own pace. Jason receives the most satisfaction from seeing his students embrace the process of putting in their time and effort to pass classes. This is Jason’s second year teaching at the Detention Center School and he reports being happy to be a member of our SISD team. Jason has been married for 11 years to his wife Amie. They have 3 children: Chase, Alexis, and Bo. In their spare time they enjoy running their kids around to practices and coaching many of their teams. They love spending time outdoors and doing anything that involves time with family and friends. Thank you Jason!

In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, we invite you to learn more about Melissa McCommon, SOAR Teacher at the Transitions Center (TC). Melissa has been instrumental in creating a positive climate at TC this year. She has organized and created various shirts for staff to wear, such as 100th day, Rock Your Socks, Autism Awareness, and 150th day! She is currently working on the end of year shirts. All extra-curricular activities are completed on her personal time. Although it seems simple, staff joining together and wearing matching shirts create a bond and sense of community - something we all need. Thank you, Melissa! #SaginawISD #MIteachAppreesh #ThankATeacher #SOAR #TransitionsCenter
