Computer science is not something that should begin at a certain grade level. The exposure to its ideas, vocabulary, and ways of thinking should start early. The goal is not to turn every student into a computer programmer, but to help students understand the concepts and language that shape the technology around them. These books will be added into the REMC Lending Library for checkout after spring break. #SaginawISD #OurStory #REMC

The flooded fields at Murphy Farm Preschool turned into a day of boating experiences for the kids in Ms. Megan's classroom. They took a ride in the canoe and tested to see if their homemade boats would sink or float. How cool! #SaginawISD #OurStory
Saginaw ISD's Director of Instruction, Christine Bolen, and Professional Learning Program Director, Kelly Kujala, testified before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce this week. They shared SISD's commitment and dedication to literacy for all students. #SaginawISD #OurStory
This week, students from Handley Elementary School visited Hartley and participated in a class on Nature Photography. During the lesson, they learned how photography has evolved over time—from early film cameras to the digital cameras and phones used today. Students also explored how changing the angle of a photo can make an image more interesting, practicing techniques such as shooting from above, below, and up close to capture nature in creative ways. #HartleyOEC #SaginawISD #OurStory

Mrs. Hewitt’s and Ms. Curtis’s class got hands-on with science as they planted flowers and learned about the different parts of a flower and how plants grow. Students also created rain clouds while exploring what happens when it rains and how clouds form.

Director of Instruction and Coaching, Kelly Kujala, and Director of Instructional Services, Christine Bolen, had the opportunity to testify before a Michigan House Committee that is working on House Bill 5697. The team shared the story of the hard work that Saginaw ISD and Saginaw County schools have been doing to improve literacy teaching capacity through LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training. #SaginawISD #OurStory

Last week, members of our Great Start to Quality team had the opportunity to attend the Michigan AEYC Annual Early Childhood Conference, where they learned and connected with local and statewide partners.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address from Sonia Manzano, best known as Maria from Sesame Street.

Adams Preschoolers in Ms. Celeste and Mrs. Tammy’s classroom had a blast playing the game “Mr. Clown, Mr. Clown.” They were also given lots of encouragement from their teachers, who celebrated each student’s “special tricks.” Just look at those happy faces! 😊
