We've made it to the third week of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month! Anyone can be a communication partner. What we do counts; what we think is important and how we respond matters. Learn more here: https://www.assistiveware.com/learn-aac/build-communication-partner-skills

When it comes to AAC it's best to avoid...starting off with too little vocabulary, viewing an aac users response as compliance, Assuming you know what another person is thinking or wants to say, saying "use your words," taking away the aac system, trying to teach language with boring activities (we're motivated to learn and communicate when we are engaged and having fun), expecting or demanding a response every time you model or ask a question, assuming aac users with some natural speech can access that speech in every situation, doing all the talking, assuming that if they are not yet using the aac system it means they never will, prompring too much and too soon, asking only yes/no questions

The message explains that REMC is seeking feedback on their educator resources, and all responses will remain confidential. The survey will remain open until December 1st. A megaphone illustration is on the left, and a QR code for completing the survey is in the bottom right corner.
